No One Cares About You

I'm still geeking-out about Seth Godin's presentation at Google in February.

One very important point he makes is that no one cares about you, your products or if your company lives or dies. Seems obvious, right?

You would think, but many companies have such an ingrown culture that they have forgot about the customer long ago and are making the long slow slide to obscurity.

People care about themselves and how they can make their lives/jobs easier. Plan and simple. Just like you and me.

So the point is: Don't get caught-up in how great you think your product or service is. This is inward thinking. Smart companies think outward.

Sales people are naturals at this. Why? Because they are face-to-face with customers day-in and day-out.

All company decisions (and I mean every decision) needs to be decided on how you can make your customers lives/jobs easier.

Seth makes the point that people care about Google because they make their lives easier. They do this by providing great, extremely relevant search results. This is a big "make my life easier" feat.

If Google stumbles and stop doing great search, we'll all stop caring.
