$1.6 billion Valuation on the backs of its users
If you have been following the Internet news lately you've read that YouTube is being bought by Google for $1.6 (USD).
What did they do to deserve this astronomical valuation?
Well they provide a place for their users to easily share video clips of anything and everything (except porn) to anyone and everyone with an Internet connection. Simple right? Why didn't we think of this?
We, the users, provide the content and they provide the service - they get their content for free!
It puts another spin on the latest Internet rage "social networking." Now Google will clog the site with ads and make back their purchase price (they paid in Google stock) in spades.
Check out a clip by Steven Colbert as he makes fun of the YouTube business model.
