What is Your Web Site About?

I’ve been reading a great new book by Bryan and Jeffrey Eisenberg called “Call To Action.” In it there is a quote from Jim Sterne of Target Marketing:

“Make your website about the customer instead of about the company.”

I couldn’t have said it better.

Focus your site on your customer’s needs and how you can help them get those needs met. Less “About Us” stuff and more “how-to” or “good-to-know” type information your customers need.

All this requires a mind set change. You have to start looking at your company from your customer’s perspective. You have to get out of your own head and try to get into the mind of your customer, always focusing on the customer experience. This requires a good and ongoing customer feedback loop that is built-in on how you do business (more on that in future blogs).

If you always focus on the customer experience you can build a good company (and a so-so website) into a great company (and a great web site that is actually “used” by its customers).
